Thx again for a spot-on analysis. Right, when you're just doing a statistical pattern matching thing, it all works until it doesn't. I use AI for generating images for my stories and for my imagination, too. I'm an esoteric sort of guy, and I was using my favorite image generator to imagine a Homo erectus campfire scene. Part of it was having 2 Homo erecti (is that a correct plural for Latin?) carrying what I called a "bush pig" they had killed back to camp dangling from a pole. It really did look wonderful until I noticed the poor dead pig had a snout on each end.
I'm reminded of Sergeant Schultz in Hogan's Heroes: "I know nothing."
Maybe I got the paraphrase wrong. It's been awhile, but even the pigs are complaining.
Hmmm, that's a joke, and jokes require logic and metaphor, ie, intelligence. Pattern matching, no matter the black box, won't cut it. I propose the Stand-up Test to measure if the damn things are intelligent or not. The 2 snouts is funny, but you and I both know the AI didn't even realize it.
