There's really so much to unpack here. It's another example of a democracy completely outflanking a kleptocratic autocracy. In the 1930s, Charles Lindbergh's wife wrote a glowing book where she claimed that fascism, in the Nazi version, was the "wave of the future." I guess it wasn't.
