That's very nice work and makes a lot of sense. Neuronal networks are very interesting and strange systems, as they are hybrid, using physical doohickies, neurotransmitters and their receptors, to generate electrical impulses that then, in turn, effect another release and recapture of yet more neurotransmitters.
Remember, in evolution, absolutely no one is in charge, so the solutions arrived at, built by repurposing and adding to existent structures, are always both amazingly elegant and yet quite odd from a human engineer's perspective.
