One time a cubicle decided to become a person. I don't why. She refused to tell me. She asked me, though, what the human equivalent of only going a third of the way to the ceiling was? I had to think about it, but I eventually realized that, for us, the same thing is making sure that your pants legs don't touch the ground. Cubicles go up. We go down.

But it's necessary to have a little space

so you can see what's coming.

- Carrie, I spent years working in cubicle land, too. And you're right, no amount of cubicle decoration can remove the essential emptiness it represents.
