No offense on this one, and I've loved Robert Zubrin's work on how to get to Mars, but this is so ill-thought out: Just imagine (for the sake of argument) that we build such a rocket, and, let's say, the star system we approach happens to be inhabited, and they see us coming, spewing godawful amounts of toxic radioactive U-238 steam. Do you think we'd be welcome?
