It's puzzling. I read that the 1st clocks appeared in Europe in the 12 or 1300's. They were town clocks that only knew how to chime evry hour. If the unit of time was that size, then, within that space, no one would know what the hell you were doing with it!

As we've made the units smaller and smaller, our anonymity to dream ... has almost disappeared.
