It's actually puzzling, when you think of it, why society puts a premium on unconsciousness, on insensitivity. What do we or they get out of it?

If people were sensitive, more creative ideas would flow, more change would happen, and, yet, we discourage it.

Hmmm, here's a thought: Ants have tremendous social cooperation, but it's all done with hard-wired pheromones. Humans have such tight social integration, but it's done with our plastic brains ... so nature made a boo boo. Bad nature!

That's very interesting!
