I know Michelle (a bit) outside of this interview. I also did deep work in Primal Therapy with Jules and Helen Roth, who had worked with Janov. But that's another story, as they say. Realizing that one does have the ability to time travel, if you will, and actually be present at such dumbass and hurtful events that so many of us have, whether in childhood, birth, even intrauterine experience! (personal story), or later, what we now call PTSD, is so empowering. It is the best.

Michelle expresses her frustration, and this is one of the tricky parts, with Janov and the things he got wrong, and with therapists, who... Well, all this stuff really is quite tricky. You open yourself up to an ability, this wonderful ability, to simply be there at important times - I remember the green walls (and so much more) of the hospital room where I was born.

But Janov had a misconception, the idea that you could, by doing this process, somehow "drain the primal pool," and then just exist as a new person. It is absolutely true that once you know how to feel, as we would use this word, you are a different person, deeper, more empathetic both to yourself and others, and even to the little birds who stop and say hi, but there's a bit more to the whole process than Janov realized. True, he had hit the pot of gold, but never understood he had only pulled out the first coin.
