I did not know that Georgia O'Keefe had a love affair with Mabel. Forgive me, but I'm not sure if I believe that. Mabel DID tell Georgia O'Keefe about New Mexico. Mabel, famous to those who know her, is an equally important figure for women's freedom. She acquired the Dodge part from her marriage to a rich NY industrialist. She left him and moved to New Mexico in 1917, 12 years before O'Keefe. At that time, New Mexico was NOWHERE!

The Luhan part comes from Tony Luhan, a full member of the Taos Pueblo, who she was with for the rest of her life. Be sure and read one of her autobiographical works, Edge of Taos Desert: An Escape to Reality

https://www.amazon.com/Edge-Taos-Desert-Escape-Reality/dp/0826309712

If you're ever in Taos, be sure and see (or stay at) the Mabel Dodge Luhan House. If you stay in the Atrium room above the lobby, the painted windows were painted by DH Lawrence.

Mabel offered to buy a New Mexican ranch for George Gurdjieff in 1926 or 27. Unfortunately, he turned down the offer.

Years later, the building(s) were owned by Dennis Hopper. The script for Easy Rider was written there.

PS - Just one small correction: Ghost Ranch is not in Santa Fe. It's 35 miles away from Española, on the other side of the Rio Grande, near the TINY village of Abiquiu. Española is halfway between Santa Fe and Taos.

PSS - Actually, my favorite O'Keefe painting is this one: https://www.georgiaokeeffe.net/ladder-to-the-moon.jsp

And my favorite photo: https://blog.qagoma.qld.gov.au/georgia-okeeffe/

To my eye, they must be just outside of Taos, with the Rio Grande Gorge in the background.
